Technical Details & Architecture
A retrofit solution is proposed that incorporates the capabilities of smart meters into existing digital meters. An add-on communication module (ACM) is developed that can be integrated with digital meters equipped with optical or serial (RS 232, RS-485) ports.
The ACM communicates the digital meter data using the conventional Modbus protocol or DLMS/COSEM (IEC 62056-21). Data is sent to a DCU via LoRaWAN and forwarded to a central server.
The module is tested on single-phase and three-phase meters from multiple manufacturers.
